What is DMF?
In case you are wondering, DMF came from the name Des Moines Feed, which is where the family business started. DMF Gardens was started by Frank Holt who was part of the family business at Des Moines Feed and Garden Shop. With many other family members also working there, in 1996 he decided to start his own business and call it DMF Gardens. We also like to say it stands for Dad, Mom and Family because that is who we are. Today we remain family owned and operated and we thank all of our loyal customers that have helped us get to where we are today.
DMF Gardens is a family run business that was incorporated in 1996. The family's history in the agricultural industry dates back several years to 1944 when John Holt bought Des Moines Feed. The founder of DMF Gardens, Frank Holt, is a grandson to John Holt. Frank worked in the feed and garden shop for many years before starting his own business. Franks children and grandchildren are now a large part of the company.
When DMF Gardens was started the main stock was aquatic plants, but over the years we have been able to expand our product range. We now supply a large amount of Trees, Shrubs, Perennials, and Grasses to Landscapers and Garden Centers throughout Iowa and other states. Thanks to our loyal customers that have helped us grow over the years we are able to offer and stock a large range of trees, shrubs and other landscape plants.
